Wisbech Swimming Club impress at Cambridgeshire County Championships
Wisbech Swimming Club made an exciting start to 2023, taking 14 swimmers to Cambridge for the Cambridgeshire County Championships.
The events took place in January and February, and were the first of their kind for some of the club’s younger swimmers.
However, they were unphased as Wisbech came away with 62 new personal best times.
Nine club records were also broken, and 24 regional qualifying times achieved.
Wisbech swimmers took five gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze medals over the two weekends.
Millie Harris won gold in the 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke, as well as a silver and four bronze medals in the 15 years age group on her way to breaking eight club records.
In the 14 years group, Joshua Jones needed to break the club 200m breaststroke record to bring home gold – and did just that.
He then followed this up with a further three silver and three bronze medals.
In the 12 years age group, Madison Hicks managed nine medals over the event – including gold in the 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke.
Among Wisbech’s younger swimmers, in the 10/11 age group, was Lilly Wright – competing in her first County Championships.
She took three silver and three bronze medals, while in the 12 years age group Madeline Rose brought home a silver for the 50m backstroke.
Poppy Ryan also won a silver in the 50m and bronze in the 100m breaststroke events.
Wisbech Swimming Club is always on the lookout for new swimmers, and anyone interested in trialling has been encouraged to contact the club’s chair, Tracy Loughlin, at wisbechsc.clubchair@gmail.com for more details
