Wisbech youngsters beat Cambridge in the final to clinch county crown




Under-16 rugby players from Wisbech are the new county champions after victory against Cambridge in the county showpiece.

Having already beaten Shelford and Peterborough to progress through to the final, Wisbech were feeling excited and nervous.

The game started and the Wisbech lads took control from the off, with two tries scored in quick succession.

Wisbech dominated the first half in terms of physicality and the desire to win.

Defensively, the Wisbech lads were dogged and refused to concede any tries despite Cambridge’s best efforts.

In the second half, Cambridge came out fighting and soon managed to get a well-deserved try.

The pressure and fear that Cambridge could come back to win began to build on the Wisbech side.

After a scrappy five minutes, Wisbech quickly regained composure and continued their dominance adding a further three tries to the score board.

The game finished 27-7 in Wisbech’s favour, much to the delight of a large crowd of Wisbech home supporters.

Wisbech U16’s Coaches Steve Drawbridge and Ben Wicks were thrilled and immensely proud of the boys performance and added that the County Cup.

With such a strong squad, the future of Wisbech rugby looks very bright.
