Fenmen prosper against late change of opponents after Pinchbeck call off




Wisbech Town struck eight goals past late change of opponents Thetford Town in Saturday afternoon’s home pre-season friendly.

Former Fenman Danny White’s Thetford Town stepped into the breach when original opponents Pinchbeck called off because they were struggling for players.

Five first half goals went in the Fenmen’s favour during an 8-0 result in front of a crowd of 104.

Ryan Harnwell bagged his first goals at the Elgood’s Stadium following his summer move.

Scorers: Harnwell (2), Alex Beck (2), Michael Frew, Adam Millson, Aaron Hart and Sam Murphy.

This came two days after Wisbech Town’s 1-0 home win over St Ives Town. Danny Setchell scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 79th minute.

Next Saturday Wisbech Town are at home to neighbours King’s Lynn Town Reserves.

A week after that is their first competitive game, on Saturday, August 11 away at Cogenhoe United in the Emirates FA Cup.

Gary Setchell troops will play at Step 4 in the Northern Premier League Division One East having earned promotion from the UCL Premier Division, following a memorable campaign as they finished runners-up on goal difference.

They begin the Evo-Stik NPL campaign at home to Frickley Athletic on Saturday, August 18.
