Fenmen go out to goal in each half in 1st Round Qualifying Replay
Wisbech Town FC exited the Buildbase FA Trophy at the hands of hosts Yaxley on Saturday.
The Fenmen went out to a goal in each half in this 1st Round Qualifying Replay.
The visitors paid for a sluggish start.
Yaxley thus earned the right to host Ramsbottom Utd on Tuesday night (Nov. 13).
Next for Wisbech Town is Linton Granta on Tuesday night in the Cambs Invitation Cup.
The Fenmen commemorated the centenary of the end of WW1 and Rememberance Day by wearing Poppies4Kits an organisation which is raising money for The Royal British Legion by giving sports clubs the opportunity to wear poppies on their kits during matches.
League 1 cup, first round
Wisbech Town Ladies 4
Park Ladies 0
Visiting Park started this cup tie well and took the game to their hosts for the first 10 minutes.
Gradually the 'Fenladies' got to grips with the game and started to enjoy long spells of pressure but to no avail as the Park defence and keeper stood firm.
Finally the breakthrough came when Chelsea King picked up the ball in midfield and strode forward before letting fly from 20 yards with a strike the keeper could only watch fly into the net.
The second half followed much the same pattern with the home team enjoying most of the possesion and the visitors always looking sharp on the break.
Leading scorer Sophie Swinden doubled the lead five minutes into the half when she picked up a loose ball, beat a defender and curled a shot delightfully into the top corner from fully 25 yards.
Utility player Rachael Simpson, playing in midfield this week, scored the third goal when the ball broke to her just outside the box and she hit a dipping shot that beat the keeper and dipped in just under the bar, her second goal of the season.
The Park goal then had several close calls before Swinden again struck a ferocious strike past the stranded keeper to finish the scoring.
A good all round performance from the Wisbech Ladies who face the same opposition again this coming Sunday in the Cambs Senior invitation cup.
