Wisbech St Mary through to semi-final of Cambs County League Premier Division Knockout Cup




Wisbech St Mary won through to the semi-final of the Cambs County League Premier Division Knockout Cup with an emphatic 5-0 win at Cherry Hinton, in one of the few games to beat the wet weather on Saturday.

Grant Rider opened the scoring for Saints in the 42nd minute, with Niall Burton netting two minutes later to make it 2-0 at the break.

A Scott Drewery penalty made it 3-0 on the hour, Callum Taylor netting the fourth four minutes later and Nick Davey wrapping up the scoring after 70 minutes.

There was also Cup success for 2B outfit Wisbech St Mary Reserves who won 4-2 on penalties at 2A side Balsham after a 2-2 draw in the Cambs Junior Cup. Jamie Leet and Will Ketteringham got the goals for Saints, who scored all four of their spot kicks.

Manea United enjoyed a great 5-2 victory over high-flying Eaton Socon A in 2B, Rob Munden (3) and Robbie Ryan (2) scoring, while in 4B, their reserves were beaten 6-0 at Hartford Rangers Reserves and Wisbech Town Acorns lost 11-1 at Alconbury Weston, Lee Chapman scoring.

Wisbech Town Reserves fall into the Peterborough League Division One relegation area after a 12-3 thrashing at Eunice Huntingdon, Claudiu Simon (2) and Dylan Rust scoring for The Fenmen.

Goals from Mark Garner and Ben Patridge were not enough as Sutton Bridge United lost 3-2 at home to Oakham United Reserves in Division Two, and in Division Three, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves went down 5-1 at Netherton United A.
