BriSCA F2 World Champion David Polley starts defence of title at King's Lynn stock car racing

Fans were delighted to see BriSCA F2 World Champion David Polley start the defence of the world title he won at King’s Lynn last season as the first World Championship Qualifying Round took place.

This was the first step on the road which will see Polley ultimately defend his title at Nutts Corner Raceway in Northern Ireland in September.

With many of the sport’s top drivers in attendance from all over Europe, it was always going to be a difficult night. Following a few skirmishes in his heat Polley qualified for the meeting final with a sixth -place finish in his heat.

Following that the crowd were treated to some big hits between the gold-roofed Polley and the silver roof of National Points Champion Charlie Guinchard from Cheshunt.

The final saw both drivers try to dictate to the other and it eventually went wrong for Polley when he suffered damage in one attack and had to retire. Polley was out for retaliation in the Grand National and when he tried to put Guinchard away in the early stages, he ended up in the middle of a big pile up.

A complete restart was ordered but Polley had suffered a puncture in the earlier action which rendered him unable to grid for the restart and left the team with one of their worst returns points-wise for a few seasons.

Jack Issitt won the meeting final.

Henry King was also in action in the F2 Stock Cars, making his return to racing - and it did not take him long to get back into the swing of things. Racing from the red grade, King emulated Polley by qualifying for the final with a sixth-place finish in his heat and then did very well in the 38-car final to come through from the back of the grid to place seventh. Daniel Horsepool was making his debut in the formula and put in some decent laps throughout the night.

There was plenty of success for local drivers in the 1300 Stock Cars.

Things started off well for Sonny Wright, who had a fantastic runner up finish in the White & Yellow Final which was then backed up with a third place finish in his next heat.

John Moat was the quickest local man in the final as he drove fantastically to get onto the rostrum with a great third place finish. Points Champion Jacob Bromley from Canterbury only just pipped John for second place on the final bend of the race, with London’s Jimmy Morris taking the chequered flag.

World of Shale champion Tom Alsop was pleased with a fifth place in his first heat, third place in his second heat and eighth place finish in the meeting final.

It did not take long for Lee Green to get back into the swing of things as he was back out on track in a 1300 Stock Car for the first time in six years and he did very well to get in the points form the back of the grid whilst Dean Moat was also in the points places throughout the evening.

A seventh-place in the second All Comers race for Tommy Parrin was the best result for any local driver in the 2L Stock Cars.

Racing returns to King’s Lynn this Saturday (5pm) when the National Bangers take centre stage with racing coming from the Unlimited Bangers, 2L Bangers and Junior Bangers.

James Licquorice and Brad Bartram begin their assault on the 2023 campaign and will be in action in both the Unlimited and 2L Bangers. Tom Waller will be in action too.
