Manea's Dave Polley asims to follow in dad George's world title footsteps at national stock car final in King's Lynn

Manea’s Dave Polley rolled back the years when he debuted a brand new BriSCA F2 Stock Car the same colour as his father George's National Hot Rod which carried the gold roof when he won the World Championship in 1976 and 1987.

35 years after George’s last world success, son Dave is looking to emulate him by becoming a world champion – but in the world of BriSCA F2 Stock Cars rather than National Hot Rods.

The road to gold for F2 started last Saturday at King’s Lynn with a World Championship Qualifying Round.

It was a stunning start for Polley, who guided his new car to victory in the meeting final on its debut – and with the World Final taking place at Lynn in September, the local race ace is looking to improve on his best finish of a trios of third-place finishes which he recorded at Buxton in 2009, Skegness in 2010 and Mildenhall in 2016.

He qualified for the final with a third-place finish in his heat and despite having a lap handicap to overcome in the Grand National, he flew through the grid to record another third-place. Dave’s final drive was dominant, working his way through from the back of the grid to get into second place.

He then shadowed Congleton’s Lee Dimmock who was leading the way to hit the front with five laps to go and then always looked in command.

Reece Cox and Daz Kitson were also both in action in the F2 Stock Cars – both qualified for the final at the first attempt, with Reece coming home in fifth place in his heat and Daz in eight place.

The Moat family were back out in full force, with Shane once again back in action with father John and brother Dean after missing last year. Whilst Shane was a bit race rusty, the same couldn’t be said of the other Moats - with 57-year-old John taking the chequered flag whilst Dean had to make do with coming home in second place in his heat. John was also involved in a superb battle for the lead in the final until he was spun out by Carl Waterfield.

Tom Alsop had a good night with a runner up finish in the 2021 White & Yellow Final before coming home in fifth place in his heat and sixth place in the final.

National Bangers take centre stage at King’s Lynn this Saturday (5pm) with both Unlimited and 2L Bangers in action - with racing also coming from the Junior Bangers.

Joe Geeves will be flying the Wisbech flag in the Unlimited Bangers whilst James Licquorice, Jack Maryon and Max Stott will all be in action in the 2L Bangers and Jade Ellis, Levi Murkin and Katelyn and Rhys Parrin will take part in the Junior Bangers.
