Parson Drove begin pre-season campaign with friendly victory over March Town Reserves

Parson Drove kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over March Town Reserves last week.

Manager Robbie Harris was pleased with the run-out and the opportunities that came with it.

He said: "It was good. It was nice to get all the lads together, it was the first time they’ve all played together in the same side.

"We used it as a chance to look at a few different formations, a few different personnel in different positions, so it was a really good chance for us to have a look around and see what we’ve got.

"It was a good opportunity to see how new signings will play with the players we already had at the club."

With a number of friendlies still to come, Harris says he is finalising decisions regarding his side's tactical set-up.

"We’re still deciding how we want to play. We’ve had a lot of new players come to the club, so it’s been a good chance to experiment and see how they do for us.

"It lets us see who plays well where. We could have a right winger who plays better when pushed on as a right forward, or a full-back who suits being a wing-back.

"We’re still very much undecided over how we’re going to play. All these friendlies will help us nail that down."

Drove now travel to face Wisbech Town on Tuesday night, and Harris is looking forward to the challenge.

"They’re one of my old clubs, so it’s always nice to go back there. That’s obviously on a personal note," he said.

"As a team, it’s a really good test for us. I feel we’ll compete against them because we’ve got some really good players.

"With no disrespect to March Reserves, but we’ll probably learn a bit more from this game about where we are.

"I was surprised with March, they were really good.

"They sat back and let us have a lot of the ball, but they attacked us whenever they won it back. It was a good game.

"We’re pleased with the start. It’s a good chance for people to stamp their mark on the side and say they should be playing come the end of July."
