North Cambs are national champions
A dominant display of bowling saw the North Cambs team become national champions in Skegness on Saturday for the first time in nearly half a century.
Having finished top of the Newton Trophy southern section after a 22-0 points win over Suffolk, North Cambs had qualified for the National EBF Newton Trophy for the first time in 39 years.
They won on all six rinks 215 to 125, with the 90 shot difference seeing them win the trophy for the first time in 49 years.
It was a dominant display of bowling from the first end and after five ends North Cambs were 44 to 12 shots up and never looked back.
The team was selected by captain Matthew Hewitt, who couldn’t stop smiling all afternoon while the game was being played.
Results: Max Harrison, Tony Reed, Nigel Eagle 41-28; Alfie Condron, Tim Tomizzi, Nigel Blyth 34-28; Kevan Beavis, Peter Butcher, Lee Miller 32-23; Charles Waling, Joseph Gowler, Jack Wells 37-18; Kevin Ward, Tony Harley, Steve Kilby 38-14; Daniel Foreman, Matthew Warned, Matthew Fox 33-14.
