March Town make the play-offs, Wisbech Town end the season with a win and Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove share the points
March Town secured their place in the United Counties Premier South play-offs for the second consecutive season with a 3-0 home win over Yaxley this afternoon.
After finishing fourth, The Hares will play third-place Rugby Borough away in the play-off semi-final on Sunday, with the winner meeting the victor of the game between second-place Aylestone Park and fifth-place Eynesbury Rovers in the final.
March led 1-0 at the break after Danny Emmington’s eighth goal of the season in the 18th minute, Toby Allen made it 2-0 in the 77th minute with his seventh since returning to The Hares’ fold, and sub James Moore wrapped up the victory five minutes from the end with his first goal for the club.
Wisbech Town ended their season with a 2-0 win over a Deeping Rangers side managed by former Fenmen boss Brett Whaley.
Luke Hipwell, also managing against his old side, had already secured his side’s United Counties Premier North status with a 2-0 win at Melton Town on Saturday.
Today, goals in either half from Sam Bennett, his 12th since returning to Fountain Fresh Park, and Ryan Lennon with his first for the club, secured the win. Captain Max Mattless saw red for two yellow cards.
One defeat in their final seven games sees Wisbech finish in 15th place, eight points clear of the drop zone.
In the Thurlow Nunn First Division North, Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove rounded off their seasons with a 1-1 derby draw at the Danzen Logistics Stadium.
After a goalless first half, Drove took the lead through Harrison Taylor’s fourth of the season and looked the more likely winners, but the home side battled back to equalise through Harry Jenkins with his fourth of the campaign.
Drove finishes the season in tenth, and Athletic in 12th.
