March boss salutes players after Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup success over Ely City
March Town boss Ashley Taylor was full of praise for his players after lifting the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup on Tuesday night.
Goals from Craig Gillies and Flo Tsaguim saw the Hares beat Ely City 2-0 to clinch their first success in the county competition for 70 years.
Speaking after the game, a delighted Taylor said: "I'd say overall, especially with our performance in the second half, that we deserved to win it.
"It's a great night and a great feeling. We weren't feeling like that on Sunday, but luckily, this game came around quite quickly and it's another trophy for this great football club.
"We struggled with a few things in the first half but were a lot better in the second half. You never win finals with it being easy and Ely made it very hard for us to win.
"We scored two great goals, one from a set-play and the other a brilliant finish from Flo. We scored early in both halves after coming out of the traps quickly, which is something we haven't been doing of late."
On winning another piece of silverware for the club's supporters, Taylor added: "I knew the support we'd get tonight would be big and I'm really proud of the players for picking themselves up after Sunday and delivering for the fans."
March will now defend the Hinchingbrooke Cup against UCL North opponents Deeping Rangers next Tuesday at Yaxley.
"We've got one more cup final to go," said Taylor.
"It's always nice when you've felt something like this and now we want to feel it again next Tuesday, but we know it will be difficult."
