Great wins for March Town and Whittlesey Athletic, draw for Parson Drove and late defeat for Wisbech Town
All four of Fenland’s senior football clubs put in impressive performances this afternoon, with Wisbech Town the only side not to get anything for their endeavours.
March Town pulled off the result of the day, winning 3-0 at second-place Aylestone Park and Whittlesey Athletic beat promotion-chasing Harwich & Parkeston 1-0 at home.
Parson Drove got a handy point on the road with a 1-1 draw at Holland but Wisbech Town were undone by an injury time goal as they went down 3-2 at new leaders Lincoln United.
With just four games remaining in the United Counties Premier South, fourth-place March are now seven points clear of Coventry United, who head the pack chasing the play-off places.
Dan Cotton gave The Hares a 34th-minute lead in Leicestershire when he rounded the keeper for his 14th goal of the season. Sub Craig Gillies headed in his 23rd of the campaign after 76 minutes and, five minutes into added-on time, Matty Foy curled home his 13th of the season.
In the United Counties Premier North, Wisbech are now seven points clear of the drop zone with three games to play but will be aware the teams below them have a game in hand.
The Fenmen took a sixth minute lead at Lincoln against a side undefeated in the league since November. Efforts in the 20th and 45th minutes from Jack McMenemy and Ell Dye from the penalty spot saw the home side lead 2-1 at the break but Ward’s fifth of the season made it 2-2 after 72 minutes.
However, The Whites went top of the league and broke Fenmen hearts with a headed winner by Henry Moore three minutes into added on time.
Whiitlesey Athletic are up to 11th in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North after a 1-0 home win over third-place Harwich & Parkeston, who had beaten them 8-0 back in October. A second half own goal secured a third win on the trot for Athletic.
In the same division, Parson Drove are ninth after a 1-1 draw at 12th-place Holland. Stefano Cavozzi gave Drove a first-minute lead in Essex with his fifth in eight games for the club but the home side equalised with seven minutes remaining.
Wisbech will be looking anxiously over their shoulder next Saturday as they are without a game. March will look to take another step towards the play-offs when they entertain 13th-place Leicester Nirvana.
Parson Drove are in derby action at Pinchbeck United on Tuesday evening before travelling to play already-relegated Swaffham Town on Saturday. Whittlesey entertain seventh-place Gorleston Reserves.
