Senior Fenland football round-up: Wisbech retain UCL Premier Division North status; March drop points in the South, while Parson Drove and Whittlesey Athletic win
Wisbech Town are safe from relegation after victory on their travels today, while March Town's hopes of a home play-off were all but ended after a draw on the road.
The Fenmen retained their league status with a 2-0 win at Melton Town in the United Counties League Premier Division North.
Sam Bennett gave Luke Hipwell's side a 1-0 advantage going into the break with his 11th goal of the season before Rob Conyard made sure of the three points by adding a second goal after the restart.
Wisbech are seven points clear of the drop zone going into their final home game of the campaign on Bank Holiday Monday against Deeping, who are managed by former Fenmen boss Brett Whaley.
It wasn't such a good day for March Town, who threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at league strugglers Bugbrooke St Michaels in the UCL Premier Division South.
The Hares - chasing a third-place finish for a home tie in the play-offs - were coasting at 2-0 in front thanks to goals from Matty Foy and Dan Cotton.
But Bugbrooke St Michaels refused to cave in and fought back to claim an unlikely point in the second half.
The Hares remain in the final play-off spot but are now anxiously looking over their shoulders going into their final game of the regulation season at home to Yaxley on Monday.
A win will extend March's season further, but a draw or defeat could see Ash Taylor's side slip out of the play-off picture with Eynesbury Rovers and Newport Pagnell - just a point behind the Hares - waiting to pounce.
If they can get the job done, a trip to Aylestone Park now looks the most likely scenario for the Hares in the play-off semi-final, although that could change with third-placed Rugby Borough hosting fourth-placed Coventry United on the final afternoon.
Elsewhere this afternoon, there were brilliant wins for both Parson Drove and Whittlesey Athletic in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North.
Parson Drove came from behind to beat seventh-placed Gorleston 2-1 with Callum Brown equalising and Issac Kyereme popping up with the winner.
There was derby delight for Whittlesey Athletic, who were also 2-1 winners on their travels at FC Peterborough.
Jack Carter gave Athletic a 1-0 lead going into the break, with Ollie Gale netting the winner in the second half after FC Peterborough had equalised.
Eleventh-placed Whittlesey Athletic meet tenth-placed Parson Drove in a Bank Holiday Monday derby.
