Gorefield driver extends lead in Formula Vee Championship at Brands Hatch despite challenging weekend

A challenging weekend for Formula Vee Championship contender Bill Garner didn't stop him from extending his advantage in the Class B Championship.

The Gorefield racer registered valuable points in his latest outing at Brands Hatch Circuit.

Following his latest outing on the track, Garner sits in fifth place only four points from fourth and 19 points from third.

Friday's testing went well with the performance work carried out by AHS Motorsport Lutterworth proving successful and the car was back to a decent pace.

Saturday saw the horrendous rain downpours throughout the day and the first opportunity for Bill to drive the Maverick KE01 in wet conditions.

Qualifying went well with a P5 and P4 start for the respective two races.

Race 1 saw Bill take 3rd overall and first in class on track, but unfortunately, a first-lap incident was reviewed by the clerk of the course and a 10-second penalty was awarded, dropping Garner to 10th overall and fourth in class.

However, on a positive note, he did record the fastest overall lap time during the race as well as Class B fastest lap.

The Fenland driver got a great start in the second race and was straight into second.

However, the race was stopped before the end of the first lap due to an incident and a restart was called for.

The restart saw another good start into third place and a race-long battle ensued to keep that place.

Dropping to fifth during the race and then back into fourth, a race-long battle ensued for third on a drying track.

With only one real dry line, overtaking was difficult and he was just beaten into third by 0.113 of a second, but finished first in Class B.

His meeting is at Oulton Park Cheshire on September 21.
