Derby glory for Outwell Swifts after emphatic victory at Wisbech Town Reserves sees them reach final of North Cambs Junior Cup




It was Cup day on Saturday, and Outwell Swifts reached the final of the North Cambs Junior Cup after an emphatic 6-1 win at a depleted Wisbech Town Reserves.

The Peterborough League Division One Fenmen took the lead at Fountain Fresh Park, but two goals from Adan-Jay Lewis to make it 24 for the campaign, two from Jack Brand to take him to 14, one from Stefan Anderson and an own goal did the damage for the Cambs League 3B outfit, in front of a good crowd.

Leverington Sports took a welcome break from league action when they won through to the fifth round of the Peterborough League Cup with a 2-1 win at fellow Premier Division strugglers Wittering Premiair.

Wisbech St Mary were knocked out of the Cambs Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup after a 1-0 defeat at Ely City Reserves, but AFC Emneth are through to the semi-finals of the William Cockell Memorial Cup after a 4-3 penalty win at fellow Cambs League Senior A outfit Orwell. After a real battle, a late Toby Allen strike for his 25th of the campaign had taken it to spot kicks.

Chatteris Town Reserves are through to the semi-finals of the William Coad League Cup, beating visiting side Crusaders 2019 7-6 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Connor Morton and Brian Smith scored for the Lilies in real time against their fellow Cambs 2B opponents.

But Upwell Town are out of the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup, beaten 4-3 at Alconbury Reserves, despite a 14-minute hat-trick from Jamie Cobbin.

AFC Emneth Reserves moved through to the semi-finals of the John Ablett Cup after a 4-1 home victory against fellow Cambs 3B side Houghton & Wyton. Ben Garner scored twice to take him to 17 for the season, with Will Ketteringham and an own goal completing the scoreline.

In an all-Cambs 4B clash, Doddington Three Lions won 2-1 at Soham Town Rangers A in the Cambs Lower Junior Cup, with their goals coming from Liam Brady and Shane Knight. But in the same competition, March Academy Adults were well beaten, 6-1 at Ashdon United.

Tydd bounced back from a 6-1 League Cup defeat at Netherton United last week to draw 2-2 at home to the same team in the Peterborough League Premier Division. It's now four league games without defeat for the Lincolnshire side, who move seven points away from the drop zone.

The home side were missing top scorer Brad Easey and trailed 2-1 at the break, but goals from Sam Cooper and Kai Scott-Henson earned them a point.

In Division Two,it was a bad day at the office for both Leverington Sports Reserves and Tydd Reserves. Leverington went down 5-1 to third placed Glinton & Northborough, with Lewis Miller scoring, while bottom side Tydd were thrashed 14-2 at fifth placed Park Farm Pumas.

In the meeting of Division Three's bottom two, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves remain at the foot of the table after a 7-4 defeat at FC Hampton Reserves.

March Town A are up to third in the Cambs County League Senior B Division after a 4-0 home win over Swavesey Institute. A young Hares outfit took the lead just before the break when a deep free kick saw Alfie Richardson cross for James Monaghan to head home.

After the break,the home side took to the front foot and Aaron Ruscue made it 2-0 with a 35-yard rocket, before Josh Bryant scored the third with a 20-yard lob. Josh Kirby slotted in the fourth. Kieran Venni made an impressive debut for March and was unlucky to not score at least once.

Title chasing Wimblington are up to second place in 1B after a convincing 11-0 home win over Alconbury. Daniel Harradine and Ben Matthews both notched hat-tricks, there were two each for Dale Richardson and Nick Ward, with Martin Porter also getting in on the act.

Fen Tigers Engineers moved five points away from the 2B drop zone after an excellent 3-2 home win over Papworth, Matty Foy, Luke Handley and Robbie Ryan scoring, but Benwick Athletic Reserves stay rock bottom of 3B after a 7-2 defeat at Wicken Amateurs.

In 4B, Guyhirn lost 5-3 at leaders Beach and Manea United Reserves were beaten 3-1 at Swavesey Institute Reserves, Josh Brittin netting for the visitors.

One-time leaders Marshland Saints drop down to third in Division One of the North West Norfolk League after a 4-2 defeat at Heacham Reserves. In Division Two, their reserves drew 1-1 at home to The Woottons, Frankie Wright on target.
