Another Cup win for Marshland Saints
The season could end up being one to remember for Marshland Saints, who on Saturday booked their place in the quarter finals of the North West Norfolk League’s George Graver Cup with a 3-1 home victory over North Lynn.
The Saints are already through to the final of the Division One League Cup and victory yesterday over their Division Two opponents set them up for a possible Cup double.
Sitting in third place with games in hand, Saints made it five wins on the bounce yesterday with goals from Dave Abbott, Callum Rogers and Dylan Rust and they could even end up with the league title should they win their final seven games of the campaign.
There will be no Cup glory for the other Saints, however. Wisbech St May lost 2-1 at home to Great Shelford in the semi-final of the Cambs County Premier League Knockout Cup, Jordan Goult netting in the 88th minute.
In Senior A, AFC Emneth need just three wins from seven games to wrap up a seemingly inevitable fourth promotion on the trot.
Yesterday, the Honey Badgers won 4-0 at fourth placed Isleham, Toby Allen’s hat trick taking him to 35 for the season and Jamie Leet also on target.
March Town A went down 3-1 at home to Burwell in Senior B. After going close early on through Josh Bryant and Kyle Liddy, the Hares trailed 2-0 at the break.
Early in the second half a penalty made it 3-0 and although Keaton Smith pulled one back, it was a gutless performance from March, lacking in character and heart. In the same division, Chatteris Town lost 4-1 at home to Histon Reserves.
A 9-1 win at bottom of the table Eynesbury Rovers Reserves put Wimblington back on top of 1B and made it 10 wins on the trot. Goals came from Alexander Knowles (2) to make it 17 for the season, Nick Ward (2), Jermaine Watson (2), Ben Matthews, Martin Porter and Dale Richardson. In the same division, Benwick Athletic lost 4-1 at Fenstanton.
Chatteris Town Reserves kept up their recent promotion push with a 2-1 win at Hartford in 2B, and Fen Tigers Engineers pulled away from the drop zone with a crucial 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Brampton Reserves, Marty Foy with a 30-yard free kick and Will Terry with the goals.
Outwell Swifts stay top of 3B after a 9-0 demolition job at West Row Gunners. Adan-Jay Lewis’ hat-trick made it 26 for the season from 18 appearances, and there were braces for Ross Beart, making it 13 for the campaign, and Jack Brand who made it 17 for the season, with Ashley Goodale and sub Harry Trask also getting in on the act.
Hot on their heels are AFC Emneth Reserves, who thrashed visitors Isleham United Reserves 9-1, Ben Garner hitting six of them to make it 28 for the season in 14 games, Bradley Kennedy two and Luke Whyatt also notching.
Guyhirn drew 2-2 at home to Soham United Youths Men in 4B, while Manea United Reserves gave their small chances of survival a boost with a 1-0 home win over March Academy Adults, Josh Brittin with the goal. Chatteris Town A remain rock bottom without a win after a 10-0 defeat at Alconbury Reserves.
In the semi-final of the Cambridgeshire LowerJunior Cup 4B outfit Doddington Three Lions went out 3-2 at 3B side Wicken Amateurs, Jake Stockbridge and Liam Brady netting.
Leverington Sports’ incredible rise away from the relegation area continued as they beat Peterborough League Premier Division leaders FC Peterborough 4-2. It’s now just one defeat in five and they join neighbours Tydd outside the drop zone, although the Lincolnshire side were beaten 5-2 at Crowland Town, Jamal Nyang and Brad Easley scoring.
Long Sutton Athletic lost 4-1 at Holbeach United Sports in Division One, with Jamie Taylor on target, but on Wednesday evening had beaten Wisbech Town Reserves 4-3. Calvin Bird, Callum Maddigan, Taylor and sub Jack Thomas netted for the Magpies, with Joseph Wheatley and Dan Hempson scoring for the Fenmen, who had Matthew Harrison sent off.
On Saturday, Wisbech lost 4-2 at Stamford Lions, who had previously not picked up a point all season. Warren Jolly and Shaun Belfield scored for the Reds.
Leverington Sports Reserves beat Kings Cliffs 2-1 in Division Two, while Tydd Reserves stay in relegation trouble after losing 5-0 at home to Park Farm Pumas.
Sutton Bridge United won 3-2 at home to Deeping Rangers Development in Division Three, Liam Bills, Craig Pack and Ben Partridge scoring. But Long Sutton Athletic Reserves remain bottom after losing 9-0 at home to Netherton United A.
