March Golf Club ladies raise money for Sands charity and play at St Andrews course in Scotland
March Golf Club members Gail Johnson and Dawn Robinson played in the delayed Coronation Foursome Final on the Edan course at St Andrews, Scotland.
The final was due to be played last September, but was delayed following the death of the Queen.
Dawn said: “Waiting to get to St Andrews was nerve wracking, but when we got there we had a great time.
“We had two nights staying at the Old Course Hotel, giving us the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the home of golf.”
Gail added: “It was exciting to be part of the largest golf competition for women competition in UK and Ireland, getting to the last 16 from around 18,000 players.
“Unfortunately we didn’t make the top three, but we had a fantastic experience.”
Meanwhile, six golfers set a target of walking 100km each throughout May to raise money for Sands, the golf club’s captains’ charity for 2023.
By the end of the month, they had walked a collective 1,256 km and raised £1,500. Sands supports anyone who is experiencing grief following the loss of a pregnancy or the death of baby.
Gail Johnson, the women’s captain, thanked her fellow players for taking part and also sent a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored the walkers.
“We all reached our target in a couple of weeks, but kept in walking throughout May,” she said.
