Dead dog found dumped with rubbish down Belt Drove near Begdale

A dead dog has been found among building rubbish which has been dumped down a back road.

Fenland District Council received reports around noon today of a dog found along with waste that had been fly-tipped down Belt Drove near Begdale, and immediately attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the council said they checked the dog for a microchip, which was not present, and then took the body into its care. They also cleared the fly-tipping from the site.

A post made on Facebook over the discovery of the animal has sparked outrage around the area. The post read: “Is anyone missing a dog? There has been one dumped down Belt Drove with fly-tipping rubbish...”

The social media post has gained more than 230 comments from angry members of the public.

It received comments such as: “How the hell can someone do that? Absolutely vile and heartbreaking”, “This breaks my heart. How could anyone do this?”, “Aw, poor baby.”

One comment mentioned that the mayor of Wisbech, Sidney Imafidon, was also informed, along with the council.

Cllr Imafidon said: “It looks like a Yorkie or something smaller, and had a heavy-duty collar and was tied to something heavy.

“It was dumped along with some builders' waste that was fly-tipped.”
