Met Office issues yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in March, Chatteris and Wisbech for Thursday, October 20

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as a band of thunderstorms and heavy rain is sweeping across the country.

The warning, which came into place just after 9.30am, covers March, Chatteris and Wisbech and much of Cambridgeshire and parts of East Anglia.

Such weather can cause isolated incidents of flooding and disruption.

The weather warning is in place until 1pm.

Specifically, the Met Office issues such a warning to help understand the severity of the approaching weather front.

With a yellow warning, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

On the roads, spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Meanwhile, there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
