World champion Bob Nudd officially opens new Fenland fishing platform built for children
A new fishing platform specifically built for teaching children to fish has been built on Well Creek in Outwell.
It was a dream of local Wisbech based angling coach Martin Scott who has been teaching youngsters on the Creek free of charge from a nearby public boat mooring stage but was always having to stop or move due to boats having priority.
Martin approached The Well Creek Trust who not only advised but designed the plans and put them through planning at their cost.
Martin also organised a funding page and soon raised the majority of funds for materials with thanks to the generosity of the angling community.
Local business Outwell Timber and Building Supplies kindly provided the materials at a very generous discount.
Tilney All Saints based JRH Outdoor services donated his expertise and time to build it.
And all this was topped off when four times world angling champion Bob Nudd, who is now based locally, came and opened it with the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the occasion.
This was a very low key affair due to current conditions with the only Martin, Bob Nudd and Kadie Bennington, seven, and six-year-old Jason Bennington, who are learning to fish with Martin, in attendance. Martin's daughter Samantha Scott took photos to mark the occasion.
Martin has expressed his warmest thanks to all who made his dream come true .
