Marshland St James radio presenter Richard J Hannah to get his sight back thanks to long-awaited eye surgery at King’s Lynn hospital
New shows are set to come to a radio station as a presenter gets his sight back.
Richard J Hannah from KLR24 suffered a stroke three years ago, which he believes was caused by grief after his youngest son’s death.
As a result, the 64-year-old’s diabetes became worse - leading to diabetic retinopathy, which is when high blood sugar causes damage to the retina.
Richard, who is from Marshland St James, had to give up his driving licence and relearn how to broadcast as a visually impaired presenter using AI, digital editing tools and audio assistants to deliver The Sunday Radio Magazine’s afternoon show.
However, his long-awaited eye surgery is scheduled for early May at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, meaning his vision should be restored.
"I am grateful to the QEH for fabulous care, and Tyler Lewis and the team at KLR24, who have been really patient with me,” Richard said.
“The last three years have been tough.”
The presenter is known for his radio shows that feature comedy, news and reviews - and he will be starting a new one this Sunday.
