Town donates £20,000 for annual Poppy Appeal
Organisers of this year's Wisbech Poppy Appeal have been blown away by the public's generosity.
The appeal was run from November 1 to November 13 by the Wisbech Branch of the Royal British Legion.
Members manned stalls in the town's leading supermarkets offering a variety of poppy memorabilia including the traditional Poppies, collector pins, vehicle poppies and children's school items.
All the collection points were very supported.
Toby North, chairman of Wisbech RBL, said: "The Royal British Legion charity, like many others has struggled during the pandemic to raise the funds necessary to financially support our military veterans the way in which we have ever done.
"So a huge thank-you to the people of Wisbech who collectively gave just in excess of £20,000 a magnificent achievement that the town can be justly proud of and a sum total that will be gratefully received in support of our military veterans.
"The Wisbech branch of the RBL will be 100 years old next year and will celebrate this achievement with the people of the town during Armed Forces Weekend.
"The whole town should be justly proud of the fact that you have supported a branch and raised thousands of pounds to help military veterans in their time of need.
"Please continue your support in the coming years. Our Wisbech branch is always looking for new members and would welcome those that wish to get involved, please contact Steve Pryer; wisbech.memsecretary@rbl.community or just call into the RAFA Club on Lynn Road on the first Monday of the month to join."
