Chatteris Town Council gives a no to disabled bays over safety concerns

Councillors have objected to two applications to install disabled parking bays outside a residents’ home on road safety grounds.

Chatteris Town Councillors discussed two applications for disabled bays at their meeting on Tuesday night.

The first was outside 103 New Road.

Cllr Linda Ashley, who lives near the proposed site, said it was too close to the junction with St Paul’s Drive.

She said: “That junction is bad enough to get out of as it is with all the parked cars. A disabled bay there is going to make it even worse for people trying to pull out into New Road.”

Councillors agreed it could cause road safety issues and so objected to the bay.

The second application was for the installation of a bay outside 13 South Park Street and again councillors had concerns about its location close to the Wood Street junction.

Members also heard there was a question mark over whether the resident really needed a disabled bay as it was believed they did not own a car.

Again councillors agreed to object on road safety grounds.
