Wisbech Town Council clerk Terry Jordan discusses upcoming events and gives Rose Queen update at latest council meeting
Wisbech Town Councillors were told of more potential markets and upcoming events in the town, at their meeting on Monday.
After a successful farmers’ market last month on the marketplace organised to help increase the footfall, there could potentially be more arranged going forward.
The announcement was made during town clerk Terry Jordan’s report. He mentioned how well the farmers' market went and that there may be more in the future.
Mr Jordan said the new Wisbech Market Place cleansing contract – with an initial duration of two years – started on February 10 and said “it is operating extremely well”.
He also said that in terms of community support, members are aware that the council's financial support budget is £12,000 for the current financial year and the resource committee meets next Monday for the first time in this new tax year to consider applications for support.
Councillors were also made aware that arrangements have been made jointly by the town council and the Royal British Legion Wisbech branch for an event in the park on May 8 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which will start at 6pm, with the beacon lighting at 9.30pm.
This year’s Rose Fair organisation is well under way. Mr Jordan said six people have been short listed for the position of Rose Queen. The final judging will take place next month.
Wisbech Castle was acknowledged during the council meeting for being a success. Mr Jordan said: “It continues to be extremely popular with its paranormal activities” and there are only 10 more Saturdays in 2025 with availability.
An Easter open day at the castle is planned for April 20.
