Tea party time as Wisbech care home celebrates the 77th anniversary of VE Day
Rose Lodge Care Home in Wisbech marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember.
The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed musical entertainment outside.
Head chef Dianne Lilley whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with plentiful pots of tea.
Residents reminisced about their memories of VE Day and the home had lots of war memorabilia on display for residents, families and staff to look at and discuss.
Jane Ritchie, head of activities at Rose Lodge said: “Many of our residents can remember the end of the war and we all know what it meant for our country so we wanted to celebrate the date and listen to our resident’s memories of the war and the experiences they lived through.”
Residents at Rose Lodge said: “VE day brings back some happy memories that the war had ended and we were all pleased for that and some sadness that we knew we would never see some loved ones again. We have had a lovely day outside in the sunshine today with music and lots of nice things to eat- this was much better than in the war.”
