Sutton Bridge drummer to rock all over the world with Status Quo
A drummer from Sutton Bridge is rockin’ all over the world after his band got the thumbs-up from Status Quo.
Joe Evans (25) is part of upcoming rock band Walkway who have been supporting the Quo on their Stately Home Tour in front of crowds of up to 10,000 people.
Now the band can really boast their ‘status’ after getting personal endorsements from legends Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi.
Joe, who lives in New Road, said: “Rick came up to us after the show and said he was really impressed and that they’d love to have us with them on tour again.
“He complimented our music and said we got the crowd going. I got some great comments from their drummer.
“Rossi also complimented us. He’s a nice bloke but you don’t know when he’s being sarcastic or not!”
It is the second time the band has supported the world famous rockers and they have just confirmed another support date with them in August in Scotland.
Joe joined Walkway after responding to a voicemail left on the phone at West Norfolk Academy of Music in King’s Lynn, where he teaches drumming, calling for people to join auditions.
He said: “The band are based in Suffolk so it was always going to be a bit of a trek. I went to the audition, got through and the rest is history. It was always a goal to support a band like Status Quo but I never expected it to happen.”
Walkways’ manager Michael Ready said: “To get this feedback from Status Quo is brilliant. Rossi is quite a private guy and not as forthcoming as Rick, but he told the boys they were a great band, tight as a drum and he has enjoyed all their performances.”
Their single Streetwise has gained a lot of attention with a video produced by a Hollywood cinematographer. The future is looking very bright.
