Shoppers in a Fenland supermarket were seeing stars as they pushed their trollies round on Wednesday.

TV presenter Stephen Mulhern was in Asda in Wisbech where he caught the eye of customers as he filmed his ITV show 'In For A Penny'.

'In For A Penny' is based on the segment of the same name in the show Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Stephen Mulhern explores the streets of various UK towns and cities to find people to complete various challenges. The challenges include filling cars with an exact amount of fuel and guessing the prices of items on a conveyor belt. Each show ends with the 'In for a Penny, In for a Grand' finale game, which includes people doing silly things in order to win £1,000.

He appeared to be playing the game Check It Out during his visit to Wisbech, where customers were invited to have a go. Based in a supermarket the game sees the host Stephen check out peoples' shopping.

All the shoppers have to do is say whether one item of shopping is more or less expensive than the last. If they get all of them right, Stephen will pay for their shopping.

He was wearing a Christmas jumper for his Wisbech shopping trip and festive decorations were also on show with customers who spotted the TV star taking to social media to post images and to comment on the surprise visitor.

Among them was Megan Belverstone who took to Facebook to post a couple of photos and said: "Look who was in Asda this morning."

Her post sparked a few comments from people claiming not to recognise him, while others explained the reason for his visit stating he was in town to film for the Christmas special which is set to be aired on ITV on Boxing Day.

Another shopper who spotted him and took pictures was Debs Leighton who simply wrote: "New cashier in Asda this morning."

Later Stephen posted to Tik Tok(@stephenmulern) playing a prank on a member of the supermarket staff after filming had been completed.
