Emneth Academy staff and pupils meet former Prime Minister and South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss

Staff and pupils at Emneth Academy have met up with the former Prime Minister.

Liz Truss visited Class 4 at the school on Friday, March 24.

The visit came about following a discussion during a science lesson on ecology, where the children asked about how their parents would fund buying an electric car as they were expensive.

When one of the boys said that the government would pay, it prompted a long discussion and the children said they would like to ask a Member of Parliament.

Class teacher Nicky Hazel emailed MP for South West Norfolk Liz Truss, and her constituent office replied and a date was set.

Mrs Truss spent the morning answering questions about her role in Parliament and other eco questions from the children.

Pupils, concerned about the Wisbech incinerator, asked her opinion and she told them she would not support it.

The question of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital rebuild was also brought up by a pupil and she said she was confident this would be happening.

Emneth Academy also achieved an Eco Schools Green Flag Award along with their visit from former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

The Eco Council consists of two pupils from each class and two members of staff.

A spokesperson said: “Children were voted on to the council by their peers and report back after each meeting to let the class know what has been planned.

"In the school there is an Eco board in the main hall so pupils can see what has been done and any future plans. The school grounds are clean and tidy so that children can play in a litter free environment.”
