Football star Jack Grealish sends special message to young Wisbech St Mary player with cancer after successful coffee morning
A coffee morning was held to help raise funds to support the family of an U7 football player diagnosed with cancer, who is undergoing six months of intensive treatment.
And six-year-old Hunter Martin, who was diagnosed with blood cancer lymphoma earlier this year, has also received a boost after receiving a recorded message from England football star Jack Grealish.
On Saturday, a coffee morning was organised by Laura Waterfield, a former staff member at Hunter's school, to help raise money to be added to the GoFundMe page.
The morning consisted of three different raffles, cakes and drinks.
From the coffee morning, the total made was £1,924 with £500 of this raised before the event by online raffle tickets and donations, which will be going to support Hunter and his family.
Laura said the event turned out brilliantly and it was a “really good” morning.
On a social media post, Laura said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you who donated raffle prizes and cakes and then turned up today to support this amazing cause.”
Over the weekend, Hunter received an uplifting video message from Manchester City and England national team player Jack Grealish.
In part of the video message he said: “I’ve heard that you are going through a rough time at the moment, so I am sending all my love and all my support.
“I hope you get better soon and hope you start feeling better, keep your head up and keep smiling, I have heard how much of a lovely lad you are.”
Jack said he and everyone at Man City are thinking of Hunter and sending all their love to him.
