Restaurant review: Arbuckles, Downham Market
Christmas weekend was a busy one, and on the Sunday a large party of people, around 20, including myself, dined out at Arbuckles.
Situated on the A10 at Stone Cross, it’s a little out of the way, but despite that the restaurant was extremely busy. It’s undergone a recent refurbishment, and the new look is contemporary and modern.
Dealing with a party of considerable size was always going to be a tough challenge, but the staff managed to handle it very well. There was a slight mix up with the drinks order, but nothing major.
The food is good and probably along the lines of an American diner, so the usual suspects of steak, burgers, pasta, and fish courses were the main focus. It’s reasonably priced though, and offers good value for money, and there’s enough variety to keep everyone happy. There is also a separate kids’ menu so it’s a very family friendly venue. It did get very noisy though.
Overall the service was very good, and they even managed to split the whole bill down so that each group of people in our party could pay separately for their meals.
There was an issue with one dish during the meal, but that was rectified immediately and the staff were very apologetic.
Again, considering the size of our party, they coped very well, with all of the food coming out at roughly the same time.
For myself and my wife, a two-course meal plus drinks amounted to just over £40, which is quite reasonable, and you can take the kids along, or just have a meal out for two. The restaurant is suitable for both.
