Remembrance 2022: Townspeople of Chatteris turn out to show respects
Chatteris people turned out in their hundreds for the annual Remembrance Day commemoration.
This year saw people from all walks of life together with representatives from local groups and organisations join the parade, which wended its way through crowd-lined streets from Furrowfields to the town’s War Memorial outside the parish church.
Dozens of wreaths were laid including by the Mayor, Linda Ashley, among others were the town’s scouts, and representatives from the Armed Forces.
The Rev Canon Wendy Thompson led the service of remembrance.
The parade past poppies on its way through the town pinned to various lamppost columns put there thanks to sponsors and organised by Councillor James Carney.
Since Coun Carney began the scheme in 2018 just under £3,500 has been raised for the annual Poppy Appeal.
This year marks the 40th anniversary since the Falklands War and so 40 poppies were placed throughout the town centre with each one bearing the name of the sponsor and with an optional message in memory of someone who fell in service for the country.
