Remembering Emlyn at Wisbech theatre he loved

The Angles theatre is gearing up to host a special musical extravaganza in memory of one of its long serving stalwarts.

Emlyn Moment performed and directed numerous shows over the decades he was linked to the theatre in Alexandra Road, Wisbech, before his death five years ago.

He was a dedicated trustee of the theatre he loved and so it is fitting that on May 26 and 27 its stage will be alive to the sound of musical performances from theshows he not only starred in but directed.

The show will include popular songs from the various musicals and is aimed at raising money in memory of Emlyn for the bursary that was set up in his name by his family after his death.

His daughter Natalia Beare explained the bursary was launched with the thousands of pounds raised at Emlyn’s funeral and is used to help fund children from deprived backgrounds to enable them to be part of the Ratz Theatre Company, which is based at the Angles.

Natalia said: “Dad was all about the children, he always wanted them all to have a chance to perform and enjoy being part of a theatre company. He did everything he could to help children get involved, so we thought it was fitting to set up a bursary to help children from families who cannot afford to pay for theatrical classes.

“The bursary helps those wanting to be a part of Ratz and also to join in the various workshops that are run during school holidays. The aim is to make Ratz as inclusive as possible, we want all children to have a fair chance.

“This year is the fifth anniversary of his death and we thought the time is right to stage a show to help boost the bursary funds. We have of course had covid to deal with since he died, so this is really the first opportunity we have had.

“All profits from the two nights’ will go to the bursary funds. There are still tickets left for both Friday (26) and Saturday (27) if anyone is interested. Saturday night is a gala night and so the tickets are a bit more at £25 each, but that includes prosecco and canapes. Friday night the tickets are £15 and they are all available on the Angles website.”
