Police pilot helps Wisbech students to raise their own aspirations with inspirational talk
Learners at Wisbech based Octavia AP Academy were inspired to let their aspirations soar following a talk from a retired police pilot.
Dennis Dames, who became the first qualified police commercial pilot for the Royal Bahamas Police force, was in school to talk about his time as an officer and to help raise the learners' own aspirations.
He served for 40 years and rose to the rank of superintendent. The visit was part of the school’s initiative to raise learners’ aspirations and discover different cultures.
Year 10 students heard from Mr Dames who gave an inspirational talk about his 40 years of service and how he qualified to become the first police commercial pilot in the Bahamas.
The visit was organised as part of the initiative by TBAP student services manager Ahmed Kadi which aims to raise learners’ aspirations, discover different cultures and understand the importance of respect for themselves and others.
Mr Dames talked to students about achieving their goals through hard work, self-reliance and accepting responsibility for their actions.
Mr Kadi said: “We are very grateful to Mr Dames for sharing his experience and inspirational life story.
"We wanted our learners to appreciate they can achieve their greatest dreams regardless of their background, if they work hard and respect others.”
