Operation Lumscombe proves a success tackling priority issues in Wisbech
The Wisbech Neighbourhood Policing Team have had a busy quarter working on their priorities including tackling street drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Back in October, using a combination of your feedback and their own data (from recorded crime), the team set out the top three things for to prioritise alongside ongoing force-wide priorities, for Wisbech, Elm, Friday Bridge, Coldham, Guyhirn, Murrow, Wisbech St Mary, Leverington, Tydd Gote, Parson Drove, and Newton.
Below shows the priority and how they are tackling it:
🚨 Street drinking in Market Place, Old Market and St Peter’s Garden in Wisbech: Operation Luscombe has proved a success so far, and focuses not only on street drinking, but associated issues such as begging and anti-social behaviour (ASB). Officers are carrying out joint patrols with Fenland District Council’s dedicated ASB and street scene teams.
Over this quarter, through Operation Luscombe, 40 people have been referred to the hub; 34 out of the 40 had a positive outcome, not needing any further police intervention and they have stopped their previous behaviour. Meanwhile, three people have been issued Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), three people have received Community Protection Notices (CPNs), and one person is in the process of receiving a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
🚨 Anti-social behaviour in parks and open spaces in Wisbech Town Park, St Peter’s Garden and Tillery Park: Alongside general patrols in the area, officers have been carrying out dedicated days of action to visit the open spaces and engage with the community in person. These are varying in times to ensure we see the full picture of the issue.
Interactions with members of the local community have been positive and officers often receive information from people to help them know who is responsible for the ASB. This has helped us to identify the main offenders and reduce the anti-social behaviour, allowing residents to use the open spaces as a safe environment.
🚨 Illegal parking in Wisbech town centre, Market Place, and surrounding areas: Officers carried out illegal parking days of action in October and November. In October they issued 81 tickets in one day, and in November they issued 32 tickets in one day. This is a huge decrease, which hopefully means that a police presence is helping to deter illegal parking in the town centre and Market Place.
A spokesperson for the team said: "Thank you for supporting us as we work hard to deal with these priorities and make the area a safer and more enjoyable place to live.
"While we continue to focus on these priorities, we are starting to collate data to inform what the next round of priorities will be over the winter and going into spring (January to March 2023), which we will be announcing next month."
