New Year rings in the changes for Chatteris Army Cadets
The New Year has heralded a new era for Chatteris Army Cadets.
For as long as Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) has been in existence the town's detachment has been part of Number 3 Company, but from January 1 the Chatteris group has become part of the Number 1 Company.
Detachment Commander Lieutenant Dave Percival explained: "Cambridgeshire ACF is made up of three Companies each consisting of a number of detachments in and around the headquarter locations. For as long as Cambs ACF have been established, Chatteris Detachment has sat on the borders of No. 3 company.
"However, being located on the border of The Fens, it made sense to re-locate them into No. 1 Company who parade over 200 cadets in and around Fenland and Peterborough.
"Chatteris Detachment joined No. 1 Company, in January and No. 1 Company, Officer Commanding, Major Lesley Deacon, along with her headquarters team, took the opportunity to visit the cadets on their first parade night of the year taking great pleasure in welcoming them all to No. 1 Company.
"The Army Cadet Force is actively accepting new cadets — if you are 12 years old and have just started in Year 8 then come on down. It is a national youth organisation for 12- to 18- year-olds, sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence.
"Army cadets provides a challenging and varied syllabus based on military themes."
Chatteris Detachment Army Cadet Force parades at the ACF Cadet Centre in New Road, every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm and is looking for new cadets and adult volunteers.
