Man dies in A47 crash at Wisbech
Police have confirmed a man has died following a collision in Wisbech in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday) - he has been named on social media as Phil Robinson - Leverington Sports' football captain.
Emergency services were called to the A47 roundabout in Wisbech – where the A47 meets Elm High Road - at around 12.50am following reports a blue Audi S4 car had collided with a tree.
The car had been travelling along Elm High Road towards the roundabout and the junction with the A47 when it left the carriageway and collided with the tree.
Sadly, the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, died at the scene.
The road was closed both ways between the A1101 at Wisbech and the A17 near King's Lynn as police investigation work took place at scene.
Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team, Police, Firefighters and Ambulance were all in attendance. The long diversion was put in place because of weight limits on surrounding roads and the location of the collision.
The road had reopened by 8am on Sunday.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or the manner of driving or anyone with dash cam footage to email Norfolk Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit at SCIU@norfolk.police.uk or telephone 101 quoting incident number 9 of 15 January 2023.
