Love Wisbech - love the Rose Fair - popular festival is set to return in 2023 to mark big milestone anniversary

A community organisation has announced plans to mark the 60th anniversary of the Wisbech Rose Fair with a new revitalised programme of events.

After three years of cancellations firstly due to the pandemic and then last year because of a fire in the town centre - the Rose Fair parade will be back albeit in a slightly different format.

The Love Wisbech Partnership's Rose Fair Committee, which is made up of representatives from a wide range of local organisations including: the Ferry Project, CP Learning Trust, the Oasis community Centre, Clarion Futures, Blackfield Creatives, the NHS, Cambridgeshire Libraries, Cambridgeshire county council, Fenland District Council and Wisbech Town Council is working on plans to deliver two weeks of fantastic events across the town in July.

Flashback to a previous Rose Fair - the parade will return in 2023 but it will have a different format.

The event will run from July 1 to 15 but sadly will not include the hugely successful flower festival in St Peter's Church, which was the original focal point of the festival when it was launched in 1963 to raise funds for the church.

St Peter's leaders announced last year they were calling an end to the tradition, which over the years has attracted 10,000s of visitors to the town, because of a lack of volunteers to firstly run and secondly to create the floral masterpieces that previously filled the church.

Last year the Round Table had hoped to bring the parade back after an absence of two years due to the pandemic, but were foiled when fire at a Market Place building led to scaffolding being used, which blocked the parade route.

Now Love Wisbech are hoping to reinstate it this year by making it a walking parade only and want local schools and organisations to join in the fun.

In a press statement issued today (Monday) Love Wisbech said: "The Love Wisbech Partnership is delighted to announce that the Wisbech Rose Fair will take place in July 2023 and this year we will be celebrating the 60th anniversary.

"The Wisbech Rose Fair first began in 1963 to raise funds for St Peter and St Paul's Church and it became an annual event which attracted thousands to the town.

"Following on from the great work that has been done by the Rose Fair Committee in previous years, the Love Wisbech Partnership were keen to continue this tradition as we know that the whole community looks forward to it.

"The 2023 Rose Faire Committee has representatives from a wide range of local organisations. The team will be working with the community to deliver two weeks of fantastic events across the town from July 1 to 15 - so save the date and we'll keep you posted as the programme develops.

"The committee are at the planning stage at the moment, so if your school, organisation, community group or business would like to be part of this wonderful event, or if you would like to volunteer during the festival, please get in touch with the team as soon as possible by emailing: rosefair@wisbechtowncouncil.co.u
