Lights, camera, action - Silver screen fun returns to Wisbech with re-opening of The Light Cinema

Big screen entertainment is due to restart in Wisbech later this month with the announcement The Light Cinema will be re-opening after five months.

The cinema in Cromwell Road is looking forward to welcoming film buffs back from Friday August 21 with the promise of extra precautions in place to ensure it is safe during these current times.

A spokesman for the cinema said there will be a number of measures in place to ensure social distancing including leaving a two seat gap between all parties in the auditorium.

"We don't need to leave a row empty because they are already one metre apart, but there will be two empty seats between every booking. Masks will have to be worn in the public areas like the foyer, but once in the auditorium then they can be removed as people will be eating and drinking while watching the film," she said.

There will also be other measures including encouraging everyone to book online so tickets can be collected from machines rather than at the till.

Drinks and snacks will be available with a McDonald's style ordering and collection system, with the food prepared behind the tills, which will be screened off and then distributed at a collection point.

There will be regular cleaning with seating and other areas sprayed with disinfectant between screenings. Staff in public areas will have either visors or a mask.

Cinema goers will also be asked to take their own litter out after watching the film and disposing of it in the bins to help protect staff.

The bar in The Light's Green Room will be closed, but alcoholic drinks will be available in the foyer along with other refreshments.

The spokesman said: "There are plenty of options for access, and the bar area maybe used for that, but people will not be allowed to sit in the area. The aim is to keep everyone moving as much as possible and to minimise loitering time as much as possible."

There will be clear signage providing guidance to guests and team members will all be completing extra training on the new health and safety measures and will be available to answer questions and provide support to guests where needed.

New releases scheduled in August include Christopher Nolan’s Tenet on August 26. The cinema chain is also putting together a programme of special screenings offering a wide range of family favourites and another chance to see some brilliant classic titles including the re-release of the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back on its 40th Anniversary, 10 th anniversary showings of Inception, plus Trolls World Tour.

Tickets go on sale from Wednesday (12)and further updates will be available through The Light’s website: lightcinemas.co.uk

James Morris, CEO added: “We are delighted to be reopening and have been busy preparing our cinemas to give our guests the reassurance they need to be able to relax and enjoy the big screen experience again in a clean and safe environment.

"We know how much guests have been missing the cinema and we’re excited about the scheduled line up which includes the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan blockbuster, Tenet in August as well as Wonder Woman 1984, No Time to Die among others. I want to thank everyone for their patience and support, and we look forward to welcoming guests back and to ensuring that they experience the best in cinema.”
