It's time to remember - here's how Fenland towns will mark Remembrance Sunday
With Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday fast approaching this weekend here is a round-up of the important times for towns and villages in Fenland.
Chatteris Royal British Legion is staging a short ceremony at 11am at the War Memorial outside the parish church on Friday (Armistice Day) and this will be followed by wreath laying at the RAF Memorial.
Then on Remembrance Sunday (November 13) the town will hold its annual parade, wreath laying and church service in the afternoon. This year there will be no service at the memorial at 11am.
The parade will muster at Furrowfields car park for 2.15pm ready to set off at 2.35pm to arrive at the War Memorial at 2.45pm when there will be a wreath laying ceremony following by the service of remembrance at 3pm..
The Remembrance Day parade and service are a civic event, organised by Chatteris Town Council and supported by the Chatteris Royal British Legion.
Any and all members of the community are welcome to join the parade, lay a wreath or attend the church service. Please remember the roads along the parade route, including side roads (Furrowfields to church) will also be closed for a short period of time between 2pm and 3.30pm.
On Friday November 11 in March there will be a parade which will form up in Grey's Lane at 10.50am with all serving and ex-members of the Armed Forces welcome to take pat. The parade will step off at 10.55am in time for the act of remembrance at the War Memorial in Broad Street at 11am.
On Sunday (13) the town's Royal British Legion Branch will hold its annual Remembrance Day parade.
The parade will form in Mill View car park at 9am and once again all serving members and veterans of the Armed Forces are welcome to join.Local organisations are also encouraged to take part.
The parade will step off at 9.30am and make its way to St Peter's Church where the service will begin at 9.50am.
It will then reform at 10.30am and return to the War Memorial where the wreath laying ceremony will take place between 10.55am and 11.30am.
There will be a bugler at the War Memorial but Parade Marshal Lieutenant Colonel Nigel Spence Spencer said it would be great if other players were prepared to play the Last Post at other locations across the town at 11am.
There will be an hour long service of Remembrance at Manea's St Nicolas' Church on Sunday from 3pm followed by a gathering at the War Memorial in the churchyard for the laying of wreaths.
Afterwards the village Royal British Legion Club is hosting a cream tea priced at £3 with scone, jam and cream and a hot drink. Veterans and OAPs are free - everyone is welcome.
Wisbech Remembrance will see its parade form up on the Market Place. This will include anyone from the Armed Forces (both serving and veterans), cadet groups and other organisations.
The parade will then march, followed by the civic party made up of local councillors, to the War Memorial at 1045am.
The service at the War Memorial will start at 10.50am.
A two minutes' silence will be observed at 11am and this will be followed by the laying of wreaths.
After the wreath laying the parade will reform and go to St Peter's church for the annual service of remembrance.
