Guyhirn roundabout upgrade means overnight road closures this week

The Highways England team behind the ongoing Guyhirn roundabout upgrade on the A47 is offering people the chance to ask questions and get an update on the multi-million pound project.

People are being invited to an only 'meet the team' session on Monday August 16 from 7pm.

Work has been progressing on site behind the temporary safety barriers that were installed at the end of May. The barriers have allowed contractors do more work during the daytime.

The initial phase of earthworks on the eastern verge of the A141 March Road, has been done with workers stripping off the existing topsoil, testing the existing ground and placing aggregates to form the new road.

On top of this on the western side of the River Nene Bridge work has started to install new ducts for the diversion of utility pipes and cables, and the new pedestrian crossing across Fen Road.

Highways England has been working with Anglian Water to enable them to complete their water mains diversions, both along the eastern side of the A141 March Road/A47 South Brink and also on Fend Road, over the River Nene Bridge.

The new water mains pipes have been laid and tested and the final connections are now complete as a result Highways England are able to complete the eastern widening to the A141 including installation of new drains, kerbs, placing stone and tarmac.

This work means the need for road closures overnight tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday from 8pm to 6am both nights on the A47 South Brink from and to the existing Guyhirn roundabout.

There will be similar closures overnight on Monday (August 2) and Tuesday (3) on the A141 March Road from and to the existing roundabout.

The A47/Fen Road from/to the existing Guyhirn roundabout will remain open. A signed diversion route will also be in place.

If you would like to join the 'meet the team' online event then email: A47GuyhirnJunctionRIS@highwaysengland.co.uk to register, Highways England will then confirm the booking and send you more information about how to join.
