General Election 2019: Conservatives hold on to South West Norfolk seat

The constituency of South West Norfolk has remained blue after Conservative Elizabeth Truss swept aside her rivals by keeping her seat in the House of Commons.

The Secretary of State for International Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities in Boris Johnson's Cabinet took 35,507 votes on the night with 69 per cent of the overall vote.

Nearest opponent, Labour's Emily Blake took 9,312 votes (18.1per cent), followed by the Liberal Democrat's Josie Ratcliffe (4,166 votes and 8.1 per cent), Pallavi Devulapalli of the Green Party (1,695 votes and 3.2 per cent) and Earl Elvis of Outwell of the Monster Raving Loony Party with 836 votes and 1.6 per cent of the overall vote.

Mrs Truss said in her speech after the declaration was announced: "I am absolutely delighted by the result that has just been announced.

"I am extremely pleased by the mandate the Conservative party has received across the country.

"It is a very decisive result that will end the uncertainty we have had and we can move on as a country, first of all we need to get Brexit done, but also making sure we pursue the priorities people gave me in South West Norfolk."

The South West Norfolk vote had been verified at 51,650, with a turnout at 65.89 percent.

Slightly down on 2017 figures of 52,416 and 67 per cent, with the electorate for this election being 78,384.
