Police were forced to intervene at a car meet in Wisbech on Saturday after more than 300 cars turned up.

Cars arrived from across the region including as far afield as Rutland, Peterborough and King's Lynn for the meet held at the car park of the Light Cinema/Tesco supermarket off Cromwell Road from late afternoon.

But the motor enthusiasts were forced to leave by police officers who were called out due to the high number attending and also concerns over noise.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "We were called at 4.30pm to reports of a car meet at Cromwell Road Leisure Park in Wisbech.

"Officers attended and reported at least 300 cars at the location, together with noise complaints. Officers closed off the entrance to the car park to prevent further cars joining the meet, and those at the location were spoken to and advised to leave the area.

All cars had left the location by approximately 11pm and there were no reported issues.”
