Nearly 2,000 parked into West End Park in March last night (Thursday) to watch the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacon.
The town's mayor Kim French did the honours with the help of Lt Col Nigel 'Spence' Spencer, lighting the beacon at 9.45pm - synchronised with the lighting of similar beacons across the country to mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen's reign.
Crowds were treated to free entertainment from 7.30pm with music from Tom Harlock and there was also a barbecue provided by Cassanos.

Prior to the lighting of the beacon a piper played Diu Regnare which was written by Inverary-born piper Stuart Liddell, the tune Diu Regnare was composed as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her dedication and service to the Commonwealth.
The beacon was one of thousands lit across the UK and the Commonwealth, and was part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend.
