Film’s cast and crew come to Wisbech for photoshoot and read through of Dig. Dig. Dead! which will star EastEnders actor
Wisbech is set to become the backdrop for yet another film – this time starring EastEnders actor Howard Saddler – and on Sunday the cast was in town for a photoshoot and read-through.
The town has already been seen in films such as Dean Spanley starring the late great Hollywood legend Peter O’Toole alongside Sam Neill, Bryan Brown, and Jeremy Northam, as well as television adaptations of Dickens starring David Jason.
Now it is the setting for Dig. Dig. Dead! which is due to start filming locally this autumn, right in the heart of Wisbech.
On Sunday the cast and crew were in town at the Wisbech General Cemetery for the table read and photoshoot to highlight the work the team has already put into developing the project.
“When a compulsive digger ‘a Digaholic’ accidentally unearths an evil spirit which possesses a local AA member, he is forced to get dirty to finally face his demons.”
The team also wanted to highlight the support it has already received from the local community, including Fenland Arts Council, the Angles Theatre, the Wisbech Society, chef Alison Sloan of Fascinating Foods, and Remo.
The film is set to tackle some difficult themes, including substance abuse, abandonment, and nature.
These are all relevant to the film’s writer and director, Alexander Cox.
The 23-year-old had a tumultuous start to life in the care system but has triumphed over adversity to now lead a team of nearly 20 cast and crew for the independent film production.
British actor Howard Saddler, known for his role as the villainous Pastor Clayton in the BBC’s soap drama EastEnders as well as The Office in 2002, and Amazon Prime hit My Lady Jane, has recently joined the cast as the film’s unfortunate protagonist Jules, an AA leader who ends up possessed by a malevolent being.
Howard was in town alongside his cast mates on Sunday, together with casting director Eleonor Vinters, who grew up in Wisbech and has helped shape the production team’s understanding of the area.
The team is filled with other extraordinary talent with many years of experience, such as our director of photography, Roberto Vivancos, who has worked with the likes of Patrick Stewart and Dame Judi Dench in his previous work, amongst many others and is very excited at capturing the gorgeous scenery the Fens have to offer.
The production has received £2,000 of funding from the Fenland Arts Fund to help bring the project to life.
