Fenland care home bingo cash will see residents the winners with lots of treats and outings
Hickathrift House Care Home staff in Marshland St James organised a community bingo night to raise money for outings, entertainment and special events.
The money raised is for the home’s life-enrichment programme, it includes the ‘post a wish’ initiative where residents write down ‘wishes’ they’d like to have granted, from listening to a harpist for the afternoon to a trip to Hunstanton for the day.
The bingo night took place at Walsoken Village Hall and saw the entire community attend in the hundreds. Donations were provided by residents, their families and hickathrift staff as well as several great local businesses.
Local businesses that provided spectacular prizes, include Blended Monkey Craft, Sea Life Centre Hunstanton, Play 2 Day Wisbech, the Majestic Cinema King’s Lynn and Paragon Motor Company.
Staff from all departments at Hickathrift came out in force and volunteered throughout the night, set up the evening, were fabulous front-of-house hosts, and helped residents attend the event.
Residents, their relatives, staff and the local community were all very supportive and attended the evening to help raise a huge amount totalling £1,515.
Betty, a resident, said, “What a fantastic night. It was ever so lovely to see so many people come to the bingo and I know we all had a wonderful time meeting people, playing bingo and laughing the night away. We really can’t believe all the support, it’s incredible”.
Kat Colangelo, activities lead at Hickathrift House Care Home, said: “Taking part in the bingo fundraiser has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home and community has been behind us all the way. It’s for such an important cause, helping to make magical moments for every resident. I’m delighted to be able to do my bit to raise funds for the residents.”
Paula Colman, general manager at Hickathrift House Care Home, said, “This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the local community, local businesses and the team at Hickathrift House. Thank you all ever so much for getting involved. I’d also like to thank all the residents and their families for their ongoing support with raffle tickets and donations.”
Hickathrift, which provides care for 53 residents, will hold its next bingo night on November 17 from 6 pm at Walsoken Village Hall for anyone who’d like to support their next fundraising efforts.
The varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
