A1101 Welney Wash Road: Drone photos reveal extent of flooding as Environment Agency issues alert

Drone photos have revealed the extent of the flooding on a village road today.

Pictures taken by Fenland Citizen photographer Adam Fairbrother show the A1101 Welney Wash Road is completely covered in floodwater - with Welney Flood Watch saying they had measured around 17 inches in one place this afternoon.

It comes as the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Hundred Foot Washes in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

In the alert message, they said: "River levels have risen at the Sutton Gault and Welney river gauges as a result of recent rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today and is likely to continue for the next few days.

"Flooding is affecting Hundred Foot Washes including the causeways at Sutton Gault and Welney."

They are monitoring the situation, with incident response staff liaising with Cambridgeshire and Norfolk Highways, who will decide whether to close the roads.

"Due to uneven surface of the roads, water may be deeper in places," they added.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, Welney Flood Watch said the floodwater had claimed a vehicle on the road today, and advised drivers to find alternative routes.
