Dave's taking the long way up for charity ride
An IT worker from Chatteris will be swapping his keyboard for a motorbike next weekend for a 1,000 mile charity ride.
Dave Lush, 47, who works at Covance in Huntingdon, is taking part in the Longest Day UP Motorcycle Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK, which will see participants complete a designated route from Land's End in Cornwall to John O'Groats in Scotland between sunrise and sunset on Friday (June 21) - the Summer Solstice.
Sunrise in Land's End is at 05.13am while sunset at the finishing post in John O'Groats is 10.25pm.
The rules of the event stipulate the motorcycle must cost no more than £300 (not including the cost of insurance, tyres and brakes).
The forty-seven-year-old who has been married to Cathy for seven years and has lived in Chatteris since 2010 will be riding a 1989 Yamaha FZR10000R EXUP.
As part of the Longest Day Up Dave has produced a 'Top Trump' outlining his previous longest ride.
In Dave's case it was a 100 mile ride from Wellington to St Austell when he was 16 on a Suzuki ZR50SL.
Dave said: "Cancer has affected some my friends and family, which is why I have signed up to take part in the challenge."
He is already well on the way to meeting his initial target of £600 but wants to raise as much money as possible for the charity.
The 2019 challenge is the seventh running of “The Longest Day Down”, and the fourth time it will be run “Upwards”.
In total, The Longest Day Down has raised over £100,000 so far for Cancer Research UK over the last six events.
