Dancers get into the swing of it at 1920s tea dance ahead of Chatteris Midsummer Festival

An afternoon tea dance where people were able to learn a version of the popular Charleston in time for the Chatteris Midsummer festival weekend proved a hit.

It was time for those people at the session on Sunday in the Bricstan Room to learn the cheeky dance and get their feet swivelling and jazz hands working.

The workshop was all part of the Chatteris Museum’s Chatteris 20s project and was aimed at getting people in the swing of things ready to perform at the opening of the festival on Furrowfields on Saturday June 24 immediately after the parade arrives at the field.

Organisers have been prepapring the Charleston routine working with school pupils so they can join in what is being called a ‘flashmob’ performance in the main ring and kick off an afternoon of activities and entertainment.

The workshop was open to all and was led by experts from Take the Lead Dance School and also included a traditional afternoon tea – and it was all free of charge as it was part of the museum project, which has given the Midsummer Festival it’s Roaring Twenties theme this year.
