Wisbech councillor Steve Tierney left ‘disappointed’ after new dimmed street lights are giving a lack of visibility and leaving residents feeling unsafe

A Wisbech councillor is “disappointed” after lighting has been changed in the town, leaving residents feeling unsafe.

During Monday evening’s Wisbech Town Council meeting, Cllr Steve Tierney expressed residents' concerns about street lighting in the area.

He said he has had a number of residents contact him about some of the changes to street lights that are being seen in Wisbech.

“The issue is they are replacing them with new dimmer lights, which make the whole place look darker. Residents don't feel as safe, and don't think the visibility is as good”, said Cllr Tierney.

“We have challenged the county council about this and asked them why it is they are making this change, and they can think about reversing it.

“Their best response so far is that they are going to give councillors a briefing next month.

“We are disappointed, I think people in Wisbech don't want to see this particular change, so with a bit of luck, we can fight till they do something about it.”
