College of West Anglia senior management go back to the floor to experience life as an apprentice
Members of College of West Anglia’s senior management team experienced life as an apprentice in local businesses as a part of the upcoming National Apprenticeship Week.
National Apprenticeship Week runs from February 10 to 16, with the theme of the year being ‘Skills for Life,’ emphasising how apprenticeships equip individuals with valuable skills for rewarding careers and help employers develop a future-ready workforce.
Paul Harrison, assistant principal corporate services, visited Stepping Stones Pre-school in Littleport. He shadowed Tegan Bedford, who is taking a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Early Years.
Paul joined Tegan, leading a group of children, playing with feathers and learning how to make feathers fly. He then took part in a rendition of ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, which included a competition between two groups of children to see who could sing the song quickest.
Paul said: “The staff at Stepping Stones were extremely hospitable and the children were utterly charming. I was really impressed with Tegan's passion for her work and the responsibility that she has in the workplace.”
Kerry Heathcote, deputy CEO and vice principal, visited Bramham Electrical in King’s Lynn and apprentice Charlie Moore. Charlie has completed a Level 3 apprenticeship in Electrotechnical Installation and Maintenance.
He also competed in the WorldSkills Competition finals last year and won a gold medal in the Electrical Installation competition. Both Trevor Bramham, director of Bramham Electrical and Charlie toured Kerry around their recently finished site in North Lynn. Charlie highlighted the parts of the site he worked on and how the training he had received through the college enabled him to fulfill the client’s brief.
After participating in Back to the Floor, Kerry said "Participating in our CWA Back to the Floor activity each year, continues to inspire me. This year, I was delighted to spend time with our World Skills UK gold medal-winning apprentice, Charlie, and his employer, Trevor Bramham of Bramham Electrical.
“Not only did I get the opportunity to see some fantastic on-site installation work at a new architect’s office in King’s Lynn, but I was also able to engage at length with Charlie and Trevor, asking a whole host of questions about their experience of engaging with our college.”
